The Earth is like a mother—she holds us, nurtures us, and sustains all life. She does everything for us, and in return, we must do our part for her. It is vital to remember that we exist because of Mother Earth.
The College Journal of Earth, Planet, and Space Sciences (CJEPSS) is an interdisciplinary journal dedicated to enhancing students’ understanding of Earth’s formation, its ongoing changes over time, natural resources, environmental stewardship, and much more. CJES brings together a wide range of disciplines, including geology, geochronology, geochemistry, hydrologic sciences, geophysics, geoengineering, atmospheric sciences, physical geography, and beyond.

The Value of Geology Field Camp: Experiences, Lessons, and Professional Growth
Published Date: Sept - 21 - 2025
This paper reflects on my experience during the geology field camp, where I spent several weeks applying classroom knowledge to real-world geologic problems. Through hands-on mapping, data collection, and interpretation in a challenging outdoor environment, I gained a deeper understanding of rock relationships, structural geology, and stratigraphy. The experience also pushed me to develop problem-solving skills, work effectively with a team, and adapt to unpredictable field conditions, like unexpected weather, and climb up steep slopes to fall on the return. Field camp helped me both academically and personally and showed me what it takes to work as a geologist in the field. Through field camp, I developed both technical and problem-solving skills that will be invaluable as I begin my career in geology. This experience also gave me confidence in working in the field, preparing me to handle complex geological tasks as a professional geologist.
